One day a young caliph is struck by the thought of flight, and from then on he knows no peace: the world around him turns strange, and his whole life becomes a search for a way to take off. But when the caliph finally flies, he learns what flying really means. Based on Wilhelm Hauff's fairy tale in an adaptation by Klava Ilyina, the show is a philosophical story about a big dream, how far it can take you from home, and finding yourself and your place in the world. Sixteen actors play some forty characters. Alina Korytova designed more than thirty puppets of different kinds for it, from delicate shadow and tabletop puppets to lifelike giants, and puppetry meets drama, music and movement. The project was initiated by the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan.
